Old Settlers Baked Beans

Recipes > Sides

This is a great side dish for any BBQ. After browning the meat you may want to drain off most (not all) of the excess fat...the amount is dependent on how lean the ground beef was to start with. The bacon which is put on top is either reserved and uncut from the original 1/2Lb or can be an additional couple of slices......your choice.

  • 1/2 Lb. Ground Beef
  • 1/2 Lb. Bacon - Chopped
  • 1 Onion - Chopped
  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Ketchup
  • 1/4 Cup BBQ Sauce
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 Tbs Garlic - Minced
  • 2 tsp Dry Mustard
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 2 Tbs Molasses
  • 1/2 tsp Chili Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 Can Kidney Beans - approx. 15oz or Blackeyed Peas
  • 1 Can Butter Beans - approx. 15oz
  • 1 Can Pork and Beans - approx. 15oz

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Brown the 1st three ingredients together, draining off most of the excess fat.
Mix together all remaining ingredients.
Add the browned meat mixture to the remaining ingredients and incorporate well.
Place into baking dish and lay several slices of bacon on top if desired. Bake uncovered for 1 hour.

Options: Some GREAT options to think about.....add some spice.... Tabasco, Chopped pickled Jalapeno Peppers etc.....not too much, remember, you can always add more....but you can't take it away.
